Thailand: Bangkok > Hua Hin

Feb 5-6 2023 |

After returning from my north Sumatra 3-week trip, I proceeded straight to BKK BMW Motorrad, where I discovered they had just started on repairs and were "too busy" to do the 40,000 services I had booked and they had committed to do (though I left my bike with them for...3 weeks). I do not recommend BKK BMW Motorrad.

Regardless, I had a good 2-night stay on Soi 11, at Le Fenix, with one last wiener schnitzel at perennial fave Olde German Beer Haus. Then began the long trip south towards Singapore. After s quick blast through the city (Sunday morning), I kept pace for about 90 minutes on a mega-lane double-deck freeway. Right when I had had enough of freeway riding, I took a coastal route that was mostly salt pans - great for the sinuses. A highlight of this part of the journey was the bicycle path running parallel to a big chunk of the road (and no, I didn't ride on it). Must be nice for cyclists between Bangkok and Hua Hin. I met a rider from China who had ridden from Kunming - he liked what he was seeing.

While I toyed with riding on to Chumphon, I stuck with the 3-hour ride option to Hua Hin. It was my second stop there, after staying 2 nights on the trip north in October. I am glad I gave it a second try, as I wasn't that impressed the first time around when it was rainy and dismal.

Ride: 196km | 3hrs

Stay: Crystal Hotel | $24 | 4/5
