This was basically a commute ride, cover the 200km+ on the the free with the intention of catching a ferry to Koa Tao or Koa Phan Ghan. regardless, Chumphon was a place I had driven by on a bus many times to/from Bangkok and "the islands". It turned out that there is an over-night car ferry from Chumphon to Koh Tao, but there is no such ferry between islands, from from Koh Tao to Koh Phan Ghan. So I needed to drive onwards to Suranthani (Donsak, specifically) in order to catch the Raja car ferry to Samui or Phan Ghan, then take a another regular ferry onwards to Koh Tao (w/o bike).
Stayed one night in Chumphon, had a good Thai seafood dinner, and took in some of the local sights. Overall a nice local town, seems to be a historical theme focused on Chumphon as a railway terminal (FYI to all the train spotter nutters - oops, I mean enthusiasts).
