Thailand: Hua Hin > Kanchanaburi

Oct 22-24 2022 |

Headed out of Hua Hin to another place I had never been but always wanted to go, Kancanaburi, best known for the Bridge Over the River Kwai. This was also my crossing into the north of Thailand, land of no rainy season. The drive was fairly good, some freeway and some rural roads, of sample of what was to come heading north.

Kanchanaburi was ok. A place that is making the transition to the backpacker and expat scene, with all it's bell and whistles. According to a Kiwi bar manager who lives there, Kanchanaburi has the best golf in Thailand.

Stayed two nights at concrete block style guesthouse. For some reason, as often in Asia, though the place was empty, they put me in a room beside the only other guests staying there. So I had the pleasure of listening to their various noises, at all hours of the day and night.

Visited the bridge and cemetery. Hard to imagine what those people went through building it. The bridge is really popular with local tourists, and is now an Insta-style attraction.

Ride: 275km | 5 hrs

Stay: Tamarind Guesthouse, booked on Agoda | $21.50 | 3/5
