A long, fairly uninspiring drive, geared more towards moving to the next destination than taking in the sights - there weren't many; the route featured the first large-scale palm plantations I'd seen in Sumatra, probably similar to the south of the island. Did have a notable lunch - a giant fishball.
Tapak Tuan is a nice port town, with not much to do. Does not appear to have been impacted much by the tsumani. It's full of traditional "Chinese" wooden shophouses. There was not another bule in town, and I doubt many ever arrive there. Dian Rana Hotel was possibly the grungiest I have experienced in SE Asia, and overpriced though it is in an amazing location, right on the beach.
Ride: 200km | 4 hrs
Stay: Dian Rana Hotel | $16.50 | 3/5
