Stoked to be heading back to Luang Prabang, a truly awesome place I had the pleasure to first visit in 1999.
The ride was amazing, some of the best roads and scenes thus far in Laos. Things got rough for the last stretch, many trucks and extreme potholed dusty track, along with some good glimpses of the new China built railway. After seven hours, finally arrived, worse for wear. Then, interestingly, I managed to book into wrong hotel (ended up paying two nights for one...long story).
When I first went to Luang Prabang, it was a sleepy place - as in, all the people there seemed to be asleep all day, hotel reception, shop keepers, the entire populus seemingly. It's more buzzing now, with many flights a day from Bangkok, and a slew of backpackers and French tourists. But still a gem of a place, incredibly well preserved, World Heritage status well justified.
Stayed three nights, first two in room with cable TV, CNN, BCC. Realised I don't miss those much. Oil change done.
Ride: 263 km | 7.5 hrs
Stay: Nana Guesthouse | $13 | 4/5
