Singapore > Malacca

Oct 13-14 2022

Departed Singapore and made a fast crossing at Johor. Freeway ride to Malacca, which is not optimal given the often reckless driving one experiences in Malaysia, including some standard techniques such as passing you from behind at high speed in your own lane, and then swerving in front of you, all at high speed. This often happens for no reason, as there is no other traffic around, people seem to do it for kicks, or, as a Malaysian friend explained to me, it's done to "teach you" a lesson (which may or may not result in your death).

After 30 years in Asia and 12 in Singapore, I finally made it to Malacca, a place I always wanted to visit due to it's amazing history. It was good and lived up to expectations, though was sadly showing the after-effect of the Covid downturn, with rows of shuttered businesses showing for rent signs, and little tourism happening. On the bright side, it was great to be back in Malaysia where the dollar goes a long ways.

Stayed:

Ate: Stumbled upon Wild Corriander for dinner while riding by, was excellent and appears to be a real local fave Nyonya place (5/5); pulled into a no-name Roti Chania joint for my daily bfst fix, always a winner in Malaysia (5/5).
