The ride here was the best highway experienced thus far in Laos, much of it done in 6th gear. Had no plan to stop here, but it started to pour rain, so did. Well worth it - Savannakhet is another French colonial port town on Mekong, few tourists, a great boardwalk, good F&B, decent accom (w/ cable TV and World Cup), Thailand across river. First time I saw a church in Laos. The town is in pretty serious disrepair. But did see a showcase of preservation plans for heritage buildings - let's hope they make it happen. Crushed a 5km run along the river.
